Thursday Evening Trap Cancelled

Due to a lack of participation, we will be discontinuing Thursday evening trap for the time being. Sunday morning shoots will continue as usual. We are sorry for any inconvenience this cancellation may have caused.

Trap Fee Increase

Like everything else, the cost of clay targets has increased of late forcing us to raise the cost of a round of trap from $2.50 to $3.00. This will take effect on July 1. The price is the same for members and non members and does not include the cost of ammunition. This is still a great deal. Where else can you get so much bang for 3 bucks? Everyone, members and non members alike, are invited to come down and shoot with us on Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings.

Twin County Pistol League Annual Banquet

The Twin County Pistol League annual banquet for the 07-08 season was held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Century House in Acushnet. At this gathering, the league presents its yearly awards. This seasons high gun award went to Dan Allen of the New Bedford team for his 289 average. Linda Hamilton from the Satucket team was high woman winner with an average of 268.57. High senior was awarded to Pete Remillard, also from the New Bedford team. Dan Allen had the highest match score at 296 11x. The Jim Whithers match was won by Manny Bethany from the Taunton Red Team. The Al Pond match award went to Gary Osborne, who also shoots for the Taunton Red Team. These awards are given to the shooter who shoots the highest over their average for that match.

For the Taunton Red Team the high five shooter awards went to:  Dave Levesque, Len Bonner, Eric Dewhirst, Len Vintro and Don Annis. Taunton Blue Team high five are: Ted Beavers, Jack Barton, Dick DeBalsi, John Womack and Mike Costa. Most improved on the Red Team was Jim Richardi and the Blue Team winner was Dick DeBalsi.

The Collins award is given each year to the league member who has done the most for the furtherance of the shooting sports. This years award was presented to Jack Barton of the Taunton Blue Team. Jack has coached the Taunton Junior Rifle Team for many years devoting countless hours to his juniors. Jack’s guidance has built the team into a very competitive unit, teaching marksmanship and most importantly, sportsmanship, to young adult shooters.

Congratulations to Jack and all of this years award winners and thank you to all of those who participated, making this another successful shooting season!

Black Light Pistol Matches To Resume

After a long absence, the black light pistol matches will be resuming on April 20, 2008 starting at 7pm with qualifications starting at 6:30pm. For those of you who have not participated, these shoots are fired in low light conditions with the combat silhouette targets illuminated with a black light. The courses are fired using a center fire handgun, .32 caliber or larger. Pistol or revolvers may be used. Shooters must qualify prior to the match by shooting 10 rounds on the silhouette target in lighted conditions. The course requires 48 rounds in addition to the 10 rounds used for qualification. Black light matches have always been a popular activity at the club and we are hoping that they will continue where they left off. So if this type of shooting appeals to you, come on down on the 20th and try your skill. If you have questions, please feel free to e mail us.

ATTENTION...Changes To Approved Calibers List For The Indoor Range

Members are reminded that only the calibers listed on the "APPROVED CALIBERS" list are approved for use on the indoor range. If a caliber is not listed, it CAN NOT BE USED on the indoor range. The only long guns approved for use indoors are .22 and .17 rim fire ONLY. All other rifles, including those chambered for common handgun calibers, are prohibited. Shotguns, and shot shells which can be used in a handgun, are also prohibited at all times. The following list of calibers, although they may be chambered in a handgun, are specifically prohibited:

.454 Casull

.460 S&W Mag.

.475 Wildey Mag.

.475 Linebaugh

.500 Linebaugh

.500 S&W Mag.

.223 Rem (5.56x45mm) Nato

Please remember that just because a caliber is not on the above list does not mean that it is approved for the range. Only the calibers which appear on the Approved Calibers list may be used.

It is up to each individual member to be sure that the caliber you are using is approved. Members who violate this range rule will forfeit their membership and may be responsible for any damages incurred by the club.
